The question of how to honor Franklin D. Roosevelt has been a controversial one as of late and dates back 35-years to the founding of Roosevelt Island.

There’s been public meetings and design presentations on the matter but until this week no one has surveyed the opinions of Roosevelt Islanders.

Will the survey have any influence on the design of the memorial? Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation President, Steve Shane says the design decisions have already been made.

But time and money are other factors that contribute to whether the FDR Memorial will be built.

The Roosevelt Island Residents Association has come up with a survey to poll the community on their feelings about the Kahn design of the FDR Memorial in Southpoint Park. You’ll find the survey in this week’s edition of the Main Street WIRE. Fill it out, make copies for other members of your family and drop it off at Public Safety Headquarters between April 11th and April 19th.
Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation President, Steve Shane says that plans to expands Public Safety Headquarters in the former bakery are possible. RIOC’s Real Estate Development Advisory Committee explored the question during their April 2nd meeting.
