More vandalism in Southpoint Park includes racial graffiti scrawled on the Renick Ruins site and smashed light bulbs and fixtures.
BREAKING NEWS:
Sunday, April 6th 2008 – It’s been about three weeks since the brush on the east channel side of Southpoint Park was set fire and today another incident of vandalism in the park. The vandalism was discovered at 4:30pm Sunday during a walk through the park. Several walls of the Renwick Ruin have been defaced with bright red spray paint and six-letters spelling out a racial slur were painted on six of the spotlights that illuminate the ruins. Cables, light bulbs and fixtures have been pulled from parts of the fence that surrounds the park. “f.o.f. stephen attaul” was spray painted on the east facing wall of the ruin. The word, “CODY” was painted there as well along with the word, “evol.” Sticks and light fixtures were woven into the east-facing fence in front of the ruin. It’s unclear what the words spell. Symbols such a cartoon face and letters were painted on rock embedded in the ground. The Public Safety Department was unaware of the problem until I reported it. And during the 90-mintues I spent in Southpoint Park there was no one from PSD on patrol. Public Safety said they would file a report and complete an investigation.
